Skin wound healing analyses

One of many types of skin analyses we provide is the assessment of collagen content using the picrosirius red stain. Collagen is naturally birefringent and the picrosirius red dye molecules enhance this property. Under polarized light picrosirius red stained collagen appears green or red/yellow depending on the fiber thickness. Thin fibers have green birefringence and thicker fibers have yellow/red birefringence. The collagen fibers can easily be distinguished from the dark background. By using an Image J script, automatic quantitative analyses of collagen content can be made.
